  • Love to God

    "Everyone who is called by My name,
    Whom I created for my glory;
    I have formed him, yes, I have made him."

    Isaiah 43:7

    "For if self be devoted wholly to God, then there is something, above self, that overcomes it; something superior to self, that takes self, and makes an offering of it to God.  A selfish principle never devotes itself to another.  The nature of it is, to devote all others to self.  They that have true love to God, love him as God, and as the Supreme Good; where as it is the nature of selfishness to set up self in the place of God, and to make an idol of self.  That being whom men regard supremely, they devote all to.  They that idolize self, devote all to self; but they that love God as God, devote all to him."

    "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service."
    Romans 12:1

    "They devote all to him: all their heart, and all their soul, and all their mind, and all their strength, or all their powers and faculties. (Mark 12:30)"

  • And yes.  I miss Xanga!  Faceback just doesn't quite suffice. at all.
  • "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
    For His mercy endures forever.
    Oh, give thanks to the God of gods!
    For His mercy endures forever.
    Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
    For His mercy endures forever.
    To Him who alone does great wonders,
    For His mercy endures forever"

    Psalm 136:1-3

    You know those times when you can't deny His mercy?  It's all around you, so clear, so unmistakable: a life that could have been lost so unexpectedly, sin that should have received the punishment of death (and mine not His), so many innumerable evidences of His goodness and patience and presence.  And then to think, all the time, it's there. He is. And I just can be so blind to His tender mercies and His powerful sovereignty.

    Oh Father, what amazing love...
    Praise the Lord!

  • *laughs* I almost forgot how to post, it's been so long.

    With reference to the last post, one more semester down and three left to go! :) It's getting exciting and so far; I've rather been enjoying "the real thing" - or as close to it as I've gotten so far (aka clinicals). God has been so gracious and rich in mercies and it's been so good to see Him working through things that previously didn't make sense and providing unexpected blessings. :)

    Here's most of a Psalm to start off the new year:

    "I will extol You, my God, O King;
    And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
    Every day I will bless You,
    And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
    Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
    And His greatness is unsearchable.
    One generation shall praise Your works to another,
    And shall declare Your mighty acts.
    I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty,
    And on Your wondrous works...
    The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
    Slow to anger and great in mercy.
    The Lord is good to all,
    And His tender mercies are over all His works.
    All Your works shall praise You,
    O Lord,
    And Your saints shall bless You...
    The Lord upholds all who fall,
    And raises up all who are bowed down.
    The eyes of all look expectantly to You,
    And You give them their food in due season.
    You open Your hand
    And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
    The Lord is righteous in all His ways,
    Gracious in all His works.
    The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
    To all who call upon Him in truth...
    The Lord preserves all who love Him,
    But all the wicked He will destroy.
    My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord,
    And all flesh shall bless His holy name
    Forever and ever."

    Psalm 145

    "Praise God from whom all blessings flow" :)

  • Weary of earth, and laden with my sin,
    I look at heaven, and long to enter in.
    But there no evil thing may find a home;
    And yet I hear a voice that bids me “Come.”

    So vile am I, how dare I hope to stand
    In the pure glory of that Holy Land?
    Before the whiteness of that throne appear?
    Yet there are hands stretched out to draw me near.

    The while I fain would tread the heavenly way,
    Evil is ever with me day by day;
    Yet on mine ears the gracious tidings fall:
    “Repent, confess; thou shalt be loosed from all.”

    It is the voice of Jesus that I hear;
    His are the hands stretched out to draw me near;
    And His the blood that can for all atone,
    And set me faultless there before the throne.

    ‘Twas He who found me on the deathly wild;
    And made me heir of Heaven, the Father’s child;
    And day by day, whereby my soul may life,
    Gives me His grace of pardon, and will give.

    #389, Samuel J. Stone
    Some of you might recognize that from B's devo today.

    Yes, I did delete my picture post... I just can't quite get used to posting pictures online - especially of myself after having not slept all the preceding night! And I "repented" of "blackmailing" you guys, for the moment. Maybe I'll re-do it someday. Thanks for your comments anyhow!

    Well, this afternoon concluded my first day of nursing school. And it all seems so different than the past two years were - more intense and every class matters so much in moving forward. It all feels quite "adult,"( slightly scary ); everyone there is entering a health care profession or moving onto another/furthered one. On first impressions (when visiting the school at night), I wasn't expecting to like it so well and much less than my previous one. But it seems a great deal better! Regarding the classes, pathophysiology threatens to prove the most challenging, but we have six or so TAs for that class. And I'm loving my schedule (so far! lol); just two days a week of mostly three hour classes and then clinical 8 or so hours on Friday. At this point, this appears to be where God wants me, so we'll see how He works things out...

    Miss you all!
